FAQs

  • Do I need a partner?

Not at all! None of our services require you to have a partner — this includes private lessons, performances, and even competitions. Our instructors are experienced in working with individual students, so you can start learning and dancing right away.

  • How long are the classes?

Most of our classes are 45 minutes long, though exact durations may vary depending on the style or instructor. For the most accurate information, please check our class schedule, as some sessions may be slightly shorter or longer.

  • How do I get FREE group classes?

All Z Dance students with an active private lesson package receive complimentary group classes for a set period of time (details are listed in your lesson agreement).

Please note that not all classes qualify as free. Classes taught under external contracts, those not hosted at our studio, as well as workshops, intensives, and most guest instructor classes, are excluded from this benefit.

If you’re ever unsure about whether a specific class is included, simply check with our staff before class to confirm the cost. We’re always happy to help clarify!

  • Do I need to RSVP for group class?

While RSVPs are not required, they do help us plan ahead and maintain a good balance of leaders and followers. We always recommend booking your spot in advance when possible — it helps us create the best class experience for everyone!

  • What should I wear to class?

Light, comfortable clothing you can move easily in. Smooth-soled shoes are ideal; avoid sneakers with too much grip.

  • Do I need dance shoes?

Not at first! Once you’ve taken a few classes, our instructors can help you choose the right shoes for your preferred dance style.

  • Can beginners join group classes?

Yes! Beginners are always welcome to join our entry-level group classes. However, we recommend checking the class description first to ensure it’s the right fit for your experience level. Most intermediate and advanced classes dive directly into choreography rather than reviewing the basics.

If you’re brand new to dancing, we suggest starting with a New Student Intro Lesson — this allows your instructor to assess your skill level, answer questions, and recommend the best classes for you. Whether you’re a complete beginner or ready to advance, we’re here to help you feel confident and comfortable on the dance floor!

  • Do you rotate partners during class?

Most of our social dance classes include partner rotation, but it’s always optional — you’re welcome to stay with one partner if you prefer.

  • How often should I take group classes?

We recommend at least one to two group classes per week for steady progress and confidence on the dance floor.

  • Can I drop in, or do I need a membership?

Most classes allow drop-ins, but members and package holders get special pricing and perks.

  • What is your cancellation policy for group classes?

Generally, group classes are non-refundable, but if you cancel early, your spot can often be credited or transferred — check your specific class listing for details.

  • Can I bring a friend to try a class?

Yes! We love visitors. Some classes even offer first-time-friend discounts — check our current promotions or ask a staff member.

  • Where are classes held?

Our group dance classes are held at our Houston and Katy, TX studios.

Houston: 11758 Southwest Fwy, Houston, TX 77031

    Katy: 20527 FM 1093 B201 Richmond, TX 77407

  • Is parking available?

Yes — free parking is available in front of and around the studio.

  • What time should I arrive?

Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to check in, warm up, and meet your classmates.

  • What ages are welcome in group classes?

Our adult group classes are for ages 16 and up.

  • Do you offer private lessons as well?

Yes! Many students combine private lessons with group classes for faster progress and personalized coaching.

  • Can group class students perform or compete?

Definitely! Many of our social dancers go on to perform in studio showcases or represent Z Dance in local competitions.

  • What’s the difference between group classes, workshops, and intensives?

Group classes are regular weekly lessons focused on building social dance skills, technique, and confidence over time. Workshops and intensives, on the other hand, are special events that dive deeper into a specific topic, dance style, or skill. These events are a great opportunity to challenge yourself, refine your technique, and learn from different instructors. Even beginners are encouraged to attend — they’re a fun and motivating way to expand your skills and understanding of each dance!

  • Do group classes ever change themes or styles?

Yes! We rotate dance styles regularly so you can learn something new each month.
