Rumba

Rumba is a relatively slow, elegant, and romantic dance that has great emphasis on lower body articulation and inflection, with exaggerated hip movements and knee action (depending on the style of Rumba). Also known as "The Dance of Love", Rumba has its origins from Latin culture, more specifically Cuban-Afro. It originally encompassed many local dance styles, but eventually became more standardized and universal within the ballroom setting and is a main staple at many Dance Sport competitions world wide. It's also a beautiful wedding dance due to its tempo and other assets that make it ideal for newly-weds. The two versions of Rumba are International and American. These versions differ in specific aspects, such as the beginning beat and knee usage (bent or straight leg). The basic steps for Rumba are as follows: a "Slow" step that takes up two whole beats, and then two alternating steps of "Quick, quick" that each take two beats. The two alternating "Quick-Quick" steps are typically done in a side-together motion, but not always. A really good Rumba song, especially for a wedding dance, is "Thinking Out Loud: by Ed Sheeran".
